The Appledore Arts Festival has introduced a fellowship for artists who are studying, or have recently completed, a visual arts degree. Nick Bremer latest collection of oils, watercolours and drawings will be on show in his A View to Painting exhibition at Harbour House, Kingsbridge from May 19 to May 31. Urban workshops for children and young adults are taking place during this year’s North Devon Festival in a series of events called SmashEd at Landmark Theatre. Part Two of the Deep Time trilogy takes place in Budleigh Salterton and is part of a site-specific performance taking place on the beach under the cliffs during the evening of April 29. The South West creative industries could be up for an award for their work promoting a South West shopping Mall. Students from Ilfracombe Arts College are set to convert the town’s empty shops into works for art in an Empty Shops project, which seems to have the support of the whole town, if the story and the comments are anything to go by. The new South West Arts Education Partnership site has all kinds of interesting information about the organisations which support children and young people’s quality cultural opportunities, to quote them. Plus there are flashing lights – now that can’t be bad. Are you young and gifted and musical? South West Music School is sniffing out exceptionally talented young musicians (Reggae to Rock, Folk to Flamenco and Bach to Bhangra – and any combination) aged between 8 and 16. The award-winning Great Create Festival of the Arts (May 20 to June 28), now in its third year, showcases contemporary art in all formats from South West artists.
