South Devon writer Brian Carter’s book A Black Fox Running, which was included in the Nation’s Classic Writers of the English Countryside as nominated by Guardian readers in 2005, has been republished by the publishing arm of the Torbay Bookshop in Paignton. RedEarth gallery and studios in Bickleigh, Tiverton, is looking for contemporary submissions of any discipline for its second annual open studios and exhibition taking place in June.
Royal William Yard, Plymouth, home to resident artist Martin Bush, and other art enterprises is to hold an exhibition of fine art from Plymouth University students between May 16 and May 22. The Ways With Words festival of literature has pulled in some top names for this years show, including outgoing Poet Laurete Andrew Motion, who will give the Ted Hughes memorial Lecture, and former director of the National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery, Charles Saumarez-Smith.
The Watermark ‘community venue’ in Ivybridge, featuring a library, coffee shop, business units, tourist information centre and multi-purpose hall, is celebrating its first anniversary.
The Delamore exhibition, which runs throughout May and feature more than 150 artists exhibiting sculptures and paintings throughout the grand house and grounds, has chosen the Dame Hannah Rogers Trust as this year’s beneficial charity.

Summer in Devon will be bookended by Zoe Hyde. Her work, which she describes as ‘fragments of experiences’ will be at the enigmatic Docton Court Gallery, Appledore, from May 27 to June 7. And you can catch her again at the Thelma Hulbert Gallery, Honiton, September 5 to October 24. |
