Exeter Health Care Arts has successfully bid for support from Big Lottery Fund Awards for All fund for a new initiative – Devon As I See It – in 2010 where Devon people will be contributing digital photographic images of places significant to them. These images, which may, for example, be a favourite view or place, will delight and intrigue when they are on display in a unique series of installations at the Royal Devon & Exeter Wonford hospital.
Images that show the Devon landscape, our moors, woods and farmlands and pictures of our wonderful rivers and coastline are welcomed. The built environment, places where we live and visit are always of interest, from village, town to city scenes.
Exeter HealthCare Arts has asked members of Exeter Camera Club to play a pivotal role in the project by submitting their own images to the scheme and by helping and encouraging members of the public to produce images of places and scenes special to them.
People who are not members of Exeter Camera Club are welcome to submit images of the resolution stipulated. Exeter HealthCare Arts has also aims to invite people to workshops run by the club and guests to help increase skills and knowledge.
Leaflets explaining the scheme are available in the Health Infomation Centre at the Hospital, from Exeter Camera Club, Focal Point or by post – send your address to Exeter HealthCare Arts Stephen.Pettet-Smith@rdeft.nhs.uk
The initial use of images is to be ‘rights free’ and considered to be donation to the scheme. Images will be made available to hospital visitors and the public in smaller formats. Part of the proceeds of sales will be offered to those who created the image as a royalty.
The project will consist of an initial installation of 25 to 30 large format frame units, each over a metre wide. The design of the unit allows for the printed image to be changed so over a number of years different images can be displayed. Exeter HealthCare Arts, Focal Point and Stalite Signs in Exeter have worked to pioneer the unit design and installation. Examples are presently installed in Maternity
Focal Point has specified image size and format included in the information sheet. As well as large scale presentations, smaller framed installations will be produced and other lower resolution images can contribute to screen based initiatives. This part of the scheme is targeted at those below 16 years of age. Images can be captured on low resolution cameras and mobile phones.
