Martin Bush celebrates New Beginning at Plymouth’s Royal William Yard

Martin Bush's New Beginning

Martin Bush presents New Beginning, his spring show of new paintings charting a year in his life as artist in residence at the Royal William Yard. The works follow a journey through seasons and emotions; dark and moody pieces are alongside vibrant colourful canvases; small and intimate works with large jaw-dropping visions.

Colour, movement and energy remain at the core of Martin’s new beginning, and as well as opening up fresh avenues of expression, reinterpretation brings added depth and perspective to both his more figurative and pure abstract painting.

It is interesting to be able to look back over a year and reflect on an artist’s mood changes as the seasons pull and twist his palette and attitude to what is created. The influences of the Royal William Yard’s past, estuarine position and rebirth can be sensed as the art delves in and out of pure abstract through striking, vibrant colours and strong marks contrasting with darker more subtle tones.

The exhibition in the New Cooperage, Royal William Yard, Plymouth is open Tuesdays to Sundays from May 21 to June 30.
