Aftermath: art explaining conflict and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Aftermath by John McDermott

“Using art is a fantastic way of explaining a difficult thing and it is my way of trying to explain to others what conflict is all about,” said Exeter-based artist John McDermott. Part of the issues involved with conflict is the way soldiers are treated once they return from conflict.

With some figures suggesting nearly half of former soldiers suffering Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, with the issue largely brushed under the carpet, John’s art has to work hard. This is the forth in the series of John’s conversations with Exeter artist Volkhardt Muller on the Aftermath exhibition.

Aftermath runs from Friday, June 25 to Sunday, July 4 at Exeter Castle, Devon. Free entry and open daily between 10am and 6pm.
