Graham Fish is an established artist living in South Devon. He is well known for his paintings of the sea, large charismatic portraits and charcoal drawings.
As a celebration of his 60th birthday and his 10th year in his studio above Bantham Bay, Graham has decided to produce a small 6 x 8 inch painting each day throughout the year from the same point of view on his farm.
He told ArtsCulture: “I am painting a spot on the farm. A simple image based on the sky, horizon and the sea where my studio is located. The view is the same but the time of day varies to suit me.
“It’s where we look at the surf check out the days conditions and talk about the sort of stuff that blokes talk about. I’m keeping a daily journal to go with the images.
“The sea has got inside me and touched my emotions, I think I’m obsessed by it and that’s working itself out in my paintings.”
When he has finished the complete picture will be 5ftx 20ft. The last piece will be done on December 31 so it is a work in progress but can be viewed, amongst his other work during Devon Open Studios.
