Six of Plymouth’s artists will show their work in the Anon Exhibition at Plymouth Arts Centre on Friday, October 1. We caught up with one of the organisers, Lyndsey Gribble of Anon Designer for a quick Q&A
Why and how have you put together the Anon exhibition?
Me and Erica have been painting together for the past few years and had created such a massive collection of work that we thought it would be a great idea to set up an exhibition to allow others to view our work.
What’s unique about the artists taking part in the exhibition – how well do they complement each other?
We have a great selection of local artists showing their work at our exhibition ranging from photographers, illustration, painting and fine art. We all complement each other so well and as we work at the other end of the spectrum from each other you won’t see two of the same styles in any of the work on display. We also work well commercially so plenty of the work on show can be bought on the night.
You say there is a growing passion and an industry in the South West at the moment. What do you put that down to?
I think nowadays the onset of new media and social networking has opened up the door for many people who are talented artists to sell and show work to a larger market, plus we have more and more great artistic venues on Plymouth Barbican who have really raised the bar over years in terms of work on display, plus the South West historically has been a huge draw to artists who want to take inspiration from the landscape and local history.
How important is a supportive creative network?
It’s extremely important to support each other, we’re all trying to make our artwork recognisable and you get more attention as a group. We have had a great response from various galleries and shops around Plymouth.
What plans are there for future exhibitions.
There will be another exhibition next spring so stay tuned.
