Emily Wardill, whose film Game Keepers Without Game was co-poroduced and premiered at the Exeter Spacex, has won the Jarman Award.
Game Keepers Without Game will also be part of the British Art Show, which trundles into Plymouth in September 2011 after opening in Nottingham and touring to the Hayward Gallery and Glasgow.
Inspired by visionary film-maker Derek Jarman, the Film London Jarman Award was launched in 2008 to recognise artists working with the moving image whose work, like Jarman’s, resists conventional definition, encompassing innovation and excellence.
Any mid-career artist film-maker, whose work embraces a highly experimental and risk-taking approach, can be put forward for this annual prize. The winner not only receives a significant cash prize but also picks up a broadcast commission – to make four artworks for Channel 4′s Three Minute Wonder Slot (3MW).
Game Keepers Without Game has become one of Emily’s most celebrated pieces and has subsequently been exhibited at The Showroom, London and is currently on show at de Appel, Amsterdam. The film explores the issues of family and belonging through an unnerving feature length film.
