Ellie Davies has won the Exeter Contemporary Open Audience Choice Award, picking up a cool £200.
Since the exhibition opened on Thursday, September 16, visitors have been voting for their favourite of the 14 exhibiting artists via a voting box in the Phoenix Gallery.
Matt Burrows, Phoenix Gallery curator, told ArtsCulture: “It’s great that we’ve been able to give our audience a voice in this exhibition. We’ve had a fantastic response and Ellie’s beautiful piece is a deserving winner. It’s really struck a chord with visitors.”
Ellie’s winning artwork, Smoke and Mirrors 7, is a photograph of a golden tree in a dark woodland landscape.
Ellie, who is based in London, said: “I’m very honoured and pleased to have been recognised by the public in this way.”
This was the fifth year of the Exeter Contemporary Open at Exeter Phoenix, an annual exhibition in the Phoenix Gallery. The award was sponsored by Selwyn Warren of Off the Hook Clothing in Fore Street, Exeter, who presented the cheque for £200.
The exhibition runs until Friday, November 3.
