Creative education: Hedz will host a day of
creative workshops for schools in Birmingham

Creative arts and design organisation Hedz will host a day of educational creative workshops on Wednesday, December 15 at the Custard Factory, Birmingham from 10.30am to 3pm. The event will bring together schools from across the West Midlands region to participate in workshops teaching creative drawing, aerosol art and DJing.

The event will primarily focus  young people to discovering the various types of artistic outlets that are available to them within their community. One of the aims of this event is to help young people fulfil their potential, by providing them with the confidence to embrace the concept of applying creative thought.

Hedz was created 10 years ago and since then has become a pioneer in youth engagement workshops in art education and creation across Central England. The goup works with schools and colleges, helping to educate young people through creative outlets such as art and music. The founders of Hedz, Stuart Styles and Miles Hesketh, have created a range of workshops that engage young people in artistic development, while translating the importance of community values and team-work.

The latest workshops at the Custart Factory are intended to encourage young people to work together, allowing them to expand on their social skills, while giving them the opportunity to gain new abilities in areas that they would not necessarily be exposed to in a traditional classroom setting.

The creative day will also allow schools to gain access to industry professionals who understand the benefits of working with young people to improve their prospects within education and employment. Along with the workshops, a seminar will be held at the end of the event to answer questions and provide advice for the students and schools.

Miles and Stuart told ArtsCulture: “We are very excited to be able to extend our current service, thus engaging various groups of young people who may not have previously interacted, and uniting them in a common creative cause.”
