Competition to create a brand new brand for Devon Museums

Newton Abbot Museum

Can you bring Devon museums into the 21st century? There’s a competition to create a brand new brand for the collective of 78 small museums in the county which make up Devon Museums.

Far from being the dusty old places of folklore, the museums have been working together on new schemes, including Count Me In, a project bringing together museums and young people to develop exciting new initiatives for younger audiences.

Now they need their own umbrella brand and a competition has been opened for people aged 18-25 to design a new graphic identity. And to go along with the honour of having your hand in the cultural identity of the county, the prize is a new-generation Apple iPod Nano 16GB  with a £50 iTunes voucher.

The Devon Museums graphic identity will consist of a logo, colour palette and recommended typeface that represents the work of Devon Museums as it looks forward to new audiences without alienating existing stakeholders.

Most importantly, the logo needs to be flexible enough to be adaptable for different target markets, from young people and families to policy-makers and funders. It should be able to be used in monochrome as well as full colour, and be able to be used on and offline.

The deadline for this competition is Friday, January 14.

To submit your entries (that’s one per person, please), email them to Simon Gough at Redfront simon@redfront.co.uk. Your ideas should be in both EPS and jgp format. And if you need any further information email Simon before the deadline.

To find out more about Devon Museums, and to take a gander at the current identity, pop over to the Devon Museum’s site.
