Devon Open Studios, the 16-day event in September when artists from throughout Devon open their doors, is open for registration for its 2011 event.

In 2010, more than  260 artists opened their studios in 133 locations across Devon, pulling total sales and commissions of £158,355 (apparently that’s a 40 per cent increase compared to 2009).

The event is open to any Devon-based artist or maker, both established and emerging artists.

Devon Open Studios Media Officer, Natacha Du Pont De Bie told ArtsCulture: “Devon Open Studios is more than just an exhibition of artwork, it gives focus and confidence to local artists, and allows them to show in a completely different way than the gallery framework. Opening your studio gives people a chance to buy in a comfortable environment and art enthusiasts bring friends along.

“The exhibition gets the artist out there. This year the coverage was fantastic – we got into three national newspapers, had big spreads in magazines, over 50 stories in the local press, not to mention radio shows, internet articles and even a feature on ITV news. Many artists have told me that they continue to get commissions after the show and it’s an excellent springboard for networking with potential clients.”

Application packs to take part in this year’s event are available from the event coordinator, Linda Hajdukiewicz, call  01271 828 180 or email linda@m2z.co.uk. The closing date for completed applications is March 1. Application information is also on the Devon Artists Network website.

The closing date for completed applications is Tuesday, March 1.
