Theatre workshops to explore inclusivity and disability with Strictly Collaborative in Plymouth

Strictly Collaborative, a disabled led inclusive theatre company based at the Devonport Guildhall, have invited three high-profile disabled artists to Plymouth to run weekends workshops for those interested in both inclusive and disability theatre and dance in the region.

The groups has already completed its first weekend workshop with Garry Robson, which was a huge success, and there are spaces available for the workshops with Andrew Mclay exploring Physical Theatre ( February 19 and 20) and Caroline Bowditch, Dance Theatre (February 26 and 27).

This project has been funded by the Arts Council to raise awareness to inclusivity within the performing arts, and the Strictly Collaborative team hopes that those who attend will gain new skills and hands-on experience of working inclusively. The three practitioners who are to Plymouth are said to be truly inspirational whether you are a disabled or non-disabled a dance or theatre lover, performer, practitioner or teacher.

The workshops are aimed at both young people and more experienced practitioners and teachers

Day one will be a creative development day for the young people in the company (ages 13 to 25), but it is also open to other young people from the region (no experience is necessary – this is an open session). Participants will gain skills while learning about the leading artist and their work through practical creative activities.

Day two will take a similar format though aimed at a higher level – for final year students, graduates and professionals throughout the region. The professional artists will introduce and discuss their own work in more detail, and encourage participants to engage in further exploration of inclusive practice.
