Brush up your Shakespeare – endangered words brought to life in The Art of Lost Words at the Peninsula Arts Gallery

The Art of Lost Words

Feeling that your vocabulary needs a kick up the breeches? Or fancy wowing people the next time you pick up the lettered tiles in Scrabble? The Art of Lost Words at the Peninsula Arts Gallery has a shed-load of words playfully represented with images.

The blurb explains, The Art of Lost Words invites artists, designers and illustrators to create artworks inspired by endangered words from the past.

The exhibition has been curated by Rebecca Pohancenik, who gave a talk about it in Plymouth, for text/gallery, which curates collaborative projects inspired by the written word.

The first exhibition took place in the German Gymnasium, London, where 47 participants created original work inspired by their choices of the dictionary’s lost by lovely words.

Lizzie Ridout, lecturer in Graphic Communication and Typography and artist exhibiting in The Art of Lost Words, will be responding to the exhibition from her academic and personal perspective in a free talk on Thursday, April 28.

• The Art of Lost Words is at the Peninsula Arts Gallery, Plymouth until Thursday, April 28.
