Uncover the Clown and the Dark Clown within with two workshops in Plymouth

Two workshops in Plymouth are designed to help your clowning performance, and can even take you over into the darkside.

London performer, teacher, devisor and director Petra Lily is leading the two courses in Plymouth for the first time. Entitled Clown, and Dark Clown, Lily’s approach to clowning opens your awareness and flexibility as a performer and gives you added confidence.

Clown helps you be truthful onstage, improvise better and find your own ‘unique stupidity’. The workshop aims to help you learn the liberating rules of play, sharpen movement skills, and learn new techniques so you can discover how to trigger and sustain laughter, while engaging and transporting an audience.

Dark Clown is a chance to play with a darker kind of humour that lies between funniness and fear. You’ll work out how to make ‘em laugh… and make ‘em ask ‘how can I be laughing at this?!’

This course is accessible to those who are new to clown, as well as those who wish to develop and explore their clown or grow their performing skills.

Peta has devised and directed theatre works in the UK, Hong Kong, Australia and Europe. She also teaches at Central School of Speech & Drama and The Actors Centre.  And has trained with Jacques Le Coq, Philippe Gaulier, Monika Pagneux, Theatre du Mouvement, Yoshi Oida, Carlo Bosso (Commedia dell’Arte) and Mike Alfreds (Theatre Direction).

• The workshops take place at Street Factory Studios, Cobourg Street, Plymouth PL1 1SP (old YMCA in City Centre) on Thursday and Friday May 26 and 27 between 10am and 5pm (and if you book before May 13 – get your skates on – there’s the Early Bird discount price of £100)
