EXETER FRINGE: Guitar concert, by the Keith Hyett

Guitarist Keith Hyatt

Keith Hyett plays a varied concert of guitar music, calling on his many musical infuences, from the rock music of his teenage years, to classical favourites by Bach and Beethoven, as well as flamenco and folk music – which could explain his diverse appeal.

Poetry is also a big influence, and Keith has looked to the work of Thomas Hardy, and other English poets, for its rhythm and melodic qualities.

One piece of his music takes you for a walk through a forest on a moonlit night, to a clearing where which offers a panoramic view of the moon and stars.

Another piece has a flamenco feel, and is about a view from a tower on the Cotswold edge looking out on a clear day to the see the counties and the Welsh mountains and the Malvern Hills in the distance.

And the Mill tells the story of water going through a water mill, as it starts in a collecting pool and then goes through a channel which leads it to the water wheel, and then takes it to a more tranquil life.

Sample Keith Hyett’s musical poetry for yourself. He’s at the Rusty Bike, Exeter, on Sunday, June 26, at 9pm
