Cleo Mussi's Pharma's Market at the Thelma Hulbert Gallery

Cleo Mussi's zesty white bunny

For the traditional rural livestock and produce show, according to mosic artist Cleo Mussi at her Pharma’s Market show at Thelma Hulbert Gallery, Honiton, Devon, read a host of characters which range from life-sized ‘robo-rabbits’ to space scientists and bucolic farmers with a distinctly contemporary twist, all jostling for a part in the busy, thought provoking narrative.

The show is a culmination of the Cleo’s two-year research project into the contrasting imagery of historical and contemporary farming.

Cleo uses colourful fragments of vintage and recycled china, glass and ceramics to make extraordinary sparkling hybrid figures imbued with a cheeky surreal sense of humour.

Pharma’s Market aims to make visual connections between established notions about food, agriculture & animal husbandry by contrasting these ideas with more recent developments in stem cell research and genetic modification.

Cleo Mussi’s Farmer’s Market is at the Thelma Hulbert Gallery, Honiton from September 24 to November 12.
