Devon artist turns to crowd funding to complete work that explores womanhood

Sanctae detail from the indiegogo site

Devon artist Ione Rucquoi has turned to crowd funding site indiegogo to help raise a portion of the funds needed to finish her two-year photographic installation Sanctae.

Sanctae is a large-scale installation of 21 8ft x 3ft photographic colour panels of females nudes, exploring contemporary womanhood and endeavouring to ‘make saints of the ordinary’.

The work is dedicated to Niki Pollard, who died two weeks after posing for the installation, and during the exhibition funds will be raised for the Penny Brohn Cancer Care in Bristol, a centre for complementary health care supporting people during and after their chemotherapy treatment.

Ione said: “I  have a solo show with Sanctae for early 2013 at the Royal West Academy of England in Bristol and possibly a couple of other venues later in the year, so I have a lot of fundraising on my hands!”

And in conjunction with The Royal West Academy of England, Ione will organise a range of workshops and an outreach programme for schools and colleges.
