The Devon Guild of Craftsmen is looking to recruit an exhibitions officer to develop and implement a high-quality exhibition programme, both in the short and long term.

The Devon Guild of Craftsemen is an educational charity and membership organisation for professional craftspeople from the South West of England.

Its base in Bovey Tracey is the largest contemporary craft centre in the South West, refurbished in 2004 with a purpose-built gallery, and it is committed to presenting a platform for innovative and high quality contemporary craft from the South West, the rest of the UK and beyond, backed up with high-quality levels of critical contextualisation, marketing and interpretation.

Four arts intern places – which each offer an equivalent salary in the £15,000s and a chance to work with an arts organisation in the UK and in the Netherlands – are on offer from co.lab, but you’ll need to get a move on – the closing date is Monday, September 20 at noon.

The role, says co.lab, is aimed at an analytical graduate, with the creativity, self-management and interpersonal skills to slot into a busy and hardworking team. The successful applicant will enhance his/her social networking, and marketing and research skills, helping inform and deliver communications strategies and extended networking opportunities for the partner organisations.

They are looking for people who graduated in 2008 or 2009 and who want to develop marketing skills in the creative and cultural sector.

Successful applicants will spend a supported period of time with a UK company with the option to include a four-week placement in the Netherlands where they will work for both the host company and the UK partner – and you’ll be supported by a dedicated mentor and a virtual network.

All the usual skills are required (social networking, time management, team player/work independently, etc), so we reckon you’ll have to wow on your application and in the interviews, which take place in Exeter on the week starting September 27.

Devon museums voluntary youth ambassador wanted

You could make your ideas come to life through developing real projects with museums, be a positive role model to young people in your area, help spread the word, inspire others to get involved and get hands-on experience of helping run a cultural venue.

Redfront is looking for young people aged 18-25 to develop pilot projects in four museums. Projects are varied and include: film making, art projects, developing social media opportunities, wed design, and social enterprise.

Learning development officer at Burton Art Gallery wanted

Bideford’s Burton Art Gallery and Museum is looking for a learning development officer to cover maternity leave.

The role will includes devising and providing learning programmes for schools, colleges and the local community, with a particular emphasis on the newly purchased RG Lloyd Slipware collection.

Applicants should have a degree in a relevant discipline and previous experience of developing and delivering learning provision within an educational, gallery or museum setting, as well as a recent knowledge of the National Curriculum, ans specifically Art, Design and History.

Good IT skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.

Some work over weekends, bank holidays and evenings. The job is 22,221 -£24.646 per annum (pro rata) for 18 hours per week.

Job: consultant for partnerships between museums and young people, Royal Albert Memorial Museum

Museum Development Officers in Devon are seeking to appoint a creative freelancer with experience of working with young people and with youth provision in local government to facilitate partnerships between museums and youth services and develop proposals for innovative projects.

These projects will overcome barriers to participation in cultural activities amongst young people aged 14 to 19, change attitudes and perceptions in both young people and heritage organisations, and build lasting relationships with partner youth organisations.

Role:

To support the development of strategic partnerships and identify appropriate methods for advocacy at county and local level to inform the development of projects in each of the four areas
To provide contact and introductions to establish sustainable relationships between museums and local youth organisations
To develop, in collaboration with youth organisations and museums, proposals for creative programmes of work in response to museum collections and local heritage
To identify an appropriate method for measuring the impact of each of the local projects
To develop a sustainable model of future working

The fee is £10,000 including VAT and expenses, work to be timetabled over the three months January to the end of March 2010 and to include the provision of a stage 1 report at the beginning of March.

Essential:

Experience of working in partnership with local authority youth or children’s services
Experience of working in partnership with the cultural sector
Experience of developing services targeted at youth engagement
Experience of working with ‘hear by right’ standards framework
Knowledge of issues and policies relating to working with young people, including knowledge of child protection issues and their relevance in a museum/gallery context

Delivery of innovative projects will be within the following four areas: Newton Abbot; Tiverton; Holsworthy/South Molton; and Okehampton

Cellist sought by the Jammy Voo Theatre

Jammy Voo Theatre is looking for a cellist for their latest production, Darkly Delicious.

The person would need to take part in two-week rehearsal period from December 1 to December 15, with performances set for spring 2010 in the UK and France.

The groups is looking for some who can play the cello, but they are open to all stringed instruments, and has an interest in devised/collaborative theatre making.

Theatre are able to offer accommodation, travel, food with a weekly basic payment for the rehearsal period.

Jammy Voo is made up of five Lecoq trained female performers. Darkly Delicious is a devised piece of visual theatre using music, puppetry, and beautiful imagery to tell a story.

Attik Dance are after an education and creative development practitioner.

The experienced dance practitioner would need to work three days a week from January 2010, for a salary of £18,000 – £19,500 pro rata.

They are expected to deliver, develop and create a whole range of dance projects and activities within education, community and professional settings.

And according to the blurb, as well as the delivery of dance you would play a key role in developing partnerships, projects and ensuring the work being delivered stays true to the company’s artistic vision.
