Now an established annual highlight in East Devon’s classical music calendar, this year’s Honiton Festival Opera Gala promises to bring a dash of Russian romance to a fresh spring evening.
“We live in a world of increasingly complex information and choices, bombarded by sound bites and attention grabbing sensationalist headlines. To the lay person, news about medical advancement often appears to be expressed through polar opposites – fear mongering over ‘Frankenstein’ experiments versus celebration of life saving/enhancing developments.
For the traditional rural livestock and produce show, according to mosic artist Cleo Mussi at her Pharma’s Market show at Thelma Hulbert Gallery, Honiton, Devon, read a host of characters which range from life-sized ‘robo-rabbits’ to space scientists and bucolic farmers with a distinctly contemporary twist, all jostling for a part in the busy, thought provoking narrative.
Take the transgression of colouring outside the lines and add the Chapman brothers’ mastery of technique along with their dark ventures into the surreal and fantastic and you can begin to approximate Jake and Dinos’ My Giant Colouring Book, which is at the Thelma Hulbert Gallery.
The Honiton Festival kicks off on Thursday, May 5 and has another top class line up as it brings the best of new and established talents in classical music to the South West.
