Nigel is a painter working within the mediums of painting and photography. “My paintings are a creative response to a setting using partly observed and partly automatic mark making. These visual perceptions include light, colour, overlaid forms and peripheral reflections which altogether create a complex multi-layered image.”
He is interested in modern British and American culture from 1950 to the present, and uses his research in relation to his own work. He would like to develop this further by doing an MA at art college.
The Devon Open Studios Emerging Artist bursary will enable him to put on an exhibition and this in turn will fund his next body of work through these sales. The money will also help promote his connection with Devon Open Studios and raise public awareness of the group.
Venue: Northcott Theatre, Stocker Road, Exeter, EX4 4QB
