Sand in hand: Looe welcomes new Plymouth College of Art Extended Degree students

Nearly 50 new students, from ages 18 to 60 and over, from Plymouth College of Art’s BA (Hons) Extended Degree course visited Looe beach to work together creating sand sculptures as part of an annual competition during their induction to the college.

Plymouth College of Art invests in city centre home for Foundation Diploma in Art & Design students

Palace Studios, Plymouth College of Art’s new dedicated building for Foundation Diploma in Art & Design students, is due to open August 2017 on Buckwell Street in the heart of Plymouth’s city centre, adjacent to the planned British Land-owned Bretonside multiplex and cinema redevelopment and on the same street as the college’s new Palace Court campus, which was shortlisted for Building of the Year Award last year by The Building Forum for Devon and Cornwall.

Plymouth College of Art student heads to Cambridge for ARTiculation finals

17-year-old Rose Lovegrove, a first year UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production student at Plymouth College of Art, has won the South West regional final of the UK’s tenth national ARTiculation public speaking competition for her presentation based on the work of surrealist filmmaker Švankmajer.

Digital innovation in Oliver Sutherland’s solo show in The Gallery at Plymouth College of Art

As part of The Gallery at Plymouth College of Art’s South West Showcase, artist Oliver Sutherland is presenting ‘And Then…’, a solo exhibition of moving image artworks situated within real-time simulations. The exhibition, which explores possibilities for agency in digital production and the anxieties that spawn from submerging a body within technology, runs until Wednesday 15 February.

Artist Oliver Sutherland explores innovative digital simulations in The Gallery at Plymouth College of Art

As part of The Gallery at Plymouth College of Art’s South West Showcase, artist Oliver Sutherland will present a solo exhibition of moving image artworks situated within real-time simulations, opening with a free public launch from 5pm until 7pm on Wednesday 11 January 2017. Booking is not required and the free launch is open to all.

Two Plymouth College of Art graduates exhibit at world renowned Tate Modern

Last month 19-year-old Carmen Kirkby, from Plymouth, and 21-year-old Anaya Harrup, from Surrey, both of whom recently graduated with Foundation Diplomas in Art and Design from Plymouth College of Art, were selected out of hundreds of international young artists to exhibit at one of the world’s leading art institutions, Tate Modern, in London.

Opening the Sculpture season in The Gallery at Plymouth College of Art, good things come… is a new exhibition curated by Liverpool-based artist and curator Kevin Hunt, in collaboration with The Gallery’s exhibitions manager, Hannah Jones. Bringing together over 35 sculptural works by 17 artists, the exhibition tackles the themes of time and scale implied by the dual readings of the titular phrase.

The Red House and Plymouth College of Art shortlisted for prestigious international architectural award

The Red House, designed by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios and home to Plymouth School of Creative Arts, has been shortlisted in the final six for the prestigious international Architects’ Journal AJ100 Building of the Year award, the authoritative study of business of architecture, alongside buildings such as Buenos Aires Ciudad Casa de Gobierno, the offices of the President of Argentina.
