Without soil there would be no life. Healthy soils are not only essential for the production of our food, timber and fibres but are a vital part of our global eco-system, filtering our water and acting as a carbon sink to reduce the impact of climate change. That’s why the Centre for Contemporary Art and the Natural World (CCANW) commissioned 13 artists to explore it for the United Nations International Year of Soils 2015.

‘Unknown universe’ explosed in Karl Blossfeldt: Art Forms in Nature at the Thelma Hulbert Gallery

Karl Blossfeldt: Art Forms in Nature is a Hayward Touring exhibition which presents an original portfolio of 40 photogravures from 1932, entitled Wundergarten der Natur, edited by the artist and published in the year of his death. The exhibition, which is calling into Honiton’s Thelma Hulbert Gallery, presents an opportunity to witness an exemplary set of Blossfeldt’s signature close-up images of plants and flora.

Matisse’s Drawing with Scissors Hayward Touring exhibition at Thelma Hulbert gallery

The French painter, sculptor and designer, Henri Matisse (1869-1954) was one of the 20th century’s most influential artists. His vibrant works are celebrated for their extraordinary richness and luminosity of colour and his spectacular paper cut-outs were his final triumph.
