If Sandy Brown were to write an art book – which she might do one day – “it would have four pages,” she says. “The first page would be, gather some materials; the second page would say ‘forget everything you have ever seen in art or done in art, and come into the here and now with an empty mind’. The third would be ‘do it’; and the fourth page would say ‘accept it’.”

White Moose Gallery, Barnstaple, will be celebrating their fifth year (yes, that’s 5 – count them years!) with a big statement – the bold and vibrant large scale abstract paintings of Sandy Brown.
Conversations while colouring in a mushroom cloud is not something you’d usually find yourself discussing, but artist Marcus Lanyon is describing a colouring-in workshop that’s part of his Age of Panic exhibition at the White Moose Gallery, Barnstaple.
There’s something visceral about print, combining the intellectual and technical to create something which inspires a deeply emotional response. The vibrant White Moose Gallery in Barnstaple, Devon, has curated its Five Women Printmakers show, highlighting the variety, vitality and versatility of print to tell any story and highlight any theme.
