The story of a schoolteacher engaged in a timeless battle of good against evil – no, we’re not talking about Educating Yorkshire, but the new series Sleepy Hollow.

For the new show, to be aired on the Universal channel, school master and American Revolutionary War veteran Ichabod Crane is resurrected in modern day New York.

But along with Ichabod, the Headless Horseman returns too. And while Ichabod is coming to terms will being displaced 250 years, the Horseman is grappling with modern technology and weapons to do battle against the world. Only Ichabod can stop him!

There’s a good dollop of dark magic, plenty of action in this modern tale of dislocation and the supernatural – we’ve heard it turns out that the Headless Horseman is one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

TV has been particularly adept at transforming traditional material into something else for a new audience, and for 45 minutes of supernatural swash – and other – buckling the new Sleepy Hollow show should be a whole lot of fun. And we’re looking forward to seeing the rather hapless Ichabod returned as a hero, or is that just our interpretation of the character from Washington Iriving’s original 1820 story?

To see what you can expect from Sleepy Hollow, take a look at the trailer, and click through for more of the show’s details. We can tell you it kicks off on the Universal Channel at 9pm on Wednesday, October 9.

We’re preparing to carve our pumpkin heads already!
