Paintings in Hospitals is the national charity dedicated to improving health, well-being and the patient experience through the display of original artworks in health care facilities has teamed up with Exeter Health Care Arts to establish a regional ‘hub’ at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital.

Founded in 1959 and registered as a charity in 1972, Paintings in Hospitals delivers its schemes to over 250 hospitals, hospices and other healthcare facilities across England, Wales and Ireland and benefits many millions of NHS patients, staff and visitors each year.

Paintings in Hospitals is a charity and is committed to supplying its collection of 4300 art works to as many healthcare sites as possible, including those in rural areas. Our team at head office in London is supported by volunteers who manage our branches in the North, Wales, Midlands, East, Ireland, London and the South West.

The Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital has had a long connection with Paintings in Hospitals, one of the first exhibitions in Exeter in 1991 featured work from the collection.

Exeter HealthCare Arts has set aside four corridor templates, Areas E-F to J -K, of the Hospital to display art works from the South West picture loan collection. Hospitals and other healthcare providers are invited to view the works here and to arrange with Paintings in Hospitals to loan the works for the benefit of their patients and clients.

  1. Hello. I am a local fine artist (painter, BA Hons, 1st class) and have also spent many years working as a psychiatrist in London (MB BS MRCPsych). I enjoy writing and am developing that side of my CV now. If you would like any articles written on ‘art and health interface’ subjects I would be delighted to be considered. I have a number of medical publications and have had a few articles accepted recently in the local media.
    Best regards,
