Exeter Northcott Theatre is offering a number of paid six-month training placements for people aged 16-24 through the Government’s Kickstart programme. Up to 16 young people will become part of a new Northcott training company, offering participants a combination of intensive, studio-based, performance training.

New live performance

There will be opportunities to create new live performances including large-scale outdoor work during the summer, and new small-scale theatre which will be shared as part of Exeter Fringe Festival this autumn.

CV-boosting

Participants will work alongside the Northcott’s professional creative team gaining CV-boosting skills and first-hand experience of working within the theatre industry. They will also receive individual mentoring and sessions focusing on future employability.

Paid training opportunities

Daniel Buckroyd, artistic director and chief executive of Exeter Northcott said: ‘We’re very happy we can offer paid training opportunities and provide a platform for young people’s creativity at this difficult time.

‘It’s essential we support young theatre-makers find practical pathways to a career in the arts beyond the current pandemic.

Performing

‘We’re looking for young people who can demonstrate a strong interest in, and some experience of performing – this could be as an actor, singer, dancer, musician or in some other area.’

Funded by the Government’s Kickstart programme, these placements are open to anyone aged 16-24 years, who is currently in receipt of Universal Credit.

The Training Company will run from 1 June to 26 November 2021, and will be based in Exeter, including time working at both the Northcott and Barnfield Theatres.
