Anyone who’s tried to put furniture together can feel an affinity to Michael Samuels’ This Was Tomorrow at the Spacex, Exeter.
The Modernist furniture he uses, which is imbued with the elegant promise of utility, has been turned into 3-D sculptures of Mondrianian balance.
There’s also a history lesson in there – the hope and aspiration of a post war UK piecing together a new identity on HP.
Botched and/or beautiful, Michael Samuels — This Was Tomorrow is at the Spacex, Exeter to September 15.
