Comic book Gods and Greek theatrics in Alcestis at Farringdon

The Farringdon Society of Arts production of Ted Hughes’ Alcestis  is playing at Froginwell Cider Barn Theatre on July 15- 18 at 7.30pm

The group seems intent on highlighting the dramatic power of The Greek play – last year they got all Oedipus on your ass with Seamus Heaney’s The Burial at Thebes, and now with Alcestis they’ve turned their Gods into cartoon characters – all very Jungian (or should that be DC Comics).

The play even has installation art, and is set in a cider bar… er… we mean barn.

  1. Just to say thank you for a truly extraordinary evening at Alcestis last week . Immensely impressed with the direction and acting , particularly the schoolboys and Barbara Jones , the newcomers to acting and of course supremely Phil Symes himself .
I now have to read the text- and would like to read the dissertation- is that published? Very glad that academic study didnt kill Symes creativity.
Was just enthusing about it a couple of days later to a friend – Ann Evans- who was also it turned out grateful to Janet! Keep up the very good work and let me know what youre doing next year. Christina

  2. Does anyone know who I apply to for amateur performance rights?
    Thanks,
    Jane
