New Devon Opera’s Carmen to tour Devon
New Devon Opera is gearing up for its seventh season of bringing top class opera to the people of Devon. This year Bizet’s smouldering Carmen will be doing the rounds.
Eponymous cigarette girl Carmen is performed by Clare Presland and Ben Kerslake returns to the New Devon Opera lineup (after a somewhat triumphant 2010 season) as love-sick Don Jose.
The fiery tale of love and betrayal in the sun not only has wonderfully catchy and powerful tunes but it also revolutionised the opera world with its low life story of passion and desire.
Plus every ticket bought for Carmen raises money for deafblind children and adults in Devon. Now, do we dare to ask you to get Bizet…? Probably not. Here’s the itinerary:
Wednesday, July 20: Theatre One, Roland Levinsky Building, University of Plymouth
Friday/Saturday, July 22/23: The Marquee at Ugbrooke House
Tuesday/Wednesday, July 26/27: The Flavel, Dartmouth
Saturday, July 30: St Peters Church, Budleigh Salterton (as part of the Budleigh Salterton Music Festival)
